Your care plan
Make space for the essentials.
Your recovery depends on your procedure, health, and the details of your care. An online guide or another patient's experience cannot replace the instructions given to you by your surgical team.
Keep those instructions accessible. Ask the team to explain wound care, medications, activity limits, and any garments or other items your plan requires. If you are unsure about an instruction, contact the team for clarification rather than adapting it yourself.

Everyday support
Discuss work, driving, exercise, lifting, and travel separately. Arrange help with the responsibilities that may be difficult during your recovery.
Your team can guide each decision for your procedure and progress.
Follow-up visits
Stay connected.
Confirm your follow-up schedule and the best way to contact the practice between visits. Ask which changes are expected, which symptoms require a prompt call, and what to do outside office hours.
Bring questions about healing and results to your follow-up visits. Contact your surgical team about new or worsening concerns rather than using a website to decide whether they are normal. For a medical emergency, call 911 or seek emergency care.
